BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team took a pair of games at Moravian University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 3-2 and 9-6.
In the first game,
Zach Mullins started the game and went 6.0 innings. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out four.
Cam Leighton picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits.
Chris Balshuweit had three hits in the game and
Anthony Rakotz knocked in two runs.
The Knights got on the board in the third as Balshuweit singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Rakotz. Neumann went up 2-0 and Rakotz drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning.
The Greyhounds scored an unearned run in the fifth to cut the lead in half and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on first and third and no outs in the top of the ninth, Rakotz grounded into a double play, but
Donovan Brooks scored to put the Knights back up, 3-2.
Moravian put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth but could not push a run across.
In game two,
Jack Valentine started the game.
Gatlin Hovenstine and
Vic Mejia saw time out of the pen. Balshuweit picked up the win in relief, going 3.2 scoreless innings.
Thomas Carroll,
JerVal Shuler and
Brandon Colon all had three hits in game two.
Down 2-0, the Knights scored five runs in the fourth inning. The first four batters all reached on hits. Caroll had the big hit of the inning, a three-run double with two outs.
The teams then went back and forth and were tied at six heading into the ninth inning. With two runners on,
Andrew Brown hit a single to score Shuler. Balshuweit hit a two-run single for a 9-6 lead. The senior then came back on the mound for the bottom of the ninth and picked up the win.
Neumann (9-4) heads to Washington College (Md.) on Tuesday for more road action. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
