ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse were handed a 17-11 loss by Stevenson University in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
Lindsey Fagan led the Knights' effort with three goals and two assists.
Neve Murphy also had a hat-trick while
Alena Catka picked up two goals and assist along with eight draw controls.
Abbey Fenton made 14 saves in goal.
Stevenson was able to pull ahead with two goals in the first 3:17, but Neumann had a response as Murphy and Fagan scored back-to-back, tying the game with 7:44 left in the first. 1:24 later, the Mustangs regained the lead, and they led by one after 15 minutes of play.
Early in the second, the Mustangs again doubled their lead, but again Murphy, this time with the woman-up, struck for the Knights. After Stevenson again retook the two-goal lead,
Cionni Warrington and Murphy scored 90 seconds apart to equalize the game at five. Both teams traded a goal each until the 5:36 mark when Stevenson embarked on a five-goal run, taking an 11-6 lead at the half.
The Knights used the break to their advantage, coming out for the third quarter strong thanks to putting up four of the next five goals.
Cassidy Starner,
Krista Geibler, Fagan, and Catka all got on the board and Neumann trailed by just two heading into the final quarter.
Unfortunately for the Knights, they gave up the first three goals of the fourth, essentially putting the game out of reach. After Catka struck with 11:46 left, the Mustangs didn't allow any further efforts as they put the game away with two late goals.
Neumann (4-6) return to action on Wednesday evening when they visit Bryn Athyn College for another non-conference tilt, starting at 6:00 PM.
