PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team took a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, including a 3-0 United East Conference win at the University of Valley Forge. The Knights also defeated York College (N.Y.) 3-1.
Veryl Burns led the Knights with 11 kills and no errors on 11 attempts for a .917 hitting percentage against Valley Forge.
Trey Edmonds also tallied 11 kills.
JP Perdomo added 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage.
Noah Banaag handed out 29 assists. Perdomo and
Brandon Baskerville each notched 10 digs.
Down 17-14 in the first set, the Knights rallied for six straight points off service from Edmonds for a 20-17 advantage. After the Patriots scored a point, the Knights scored the next five points for the 25-18 set one win, capped on a kill by
Mason Fleisher.
In the second set, Perdomo was instrumental with multiple kills, including a crucial one at 11-7 and another at 20-15. Neumann scored six of the final seven points of the set for the 25-16 set two win.
Valley Forge jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set. Down 12-10, the Knights scored eight of the next nine points to take an 18-13 lead. The Patriots scored three consecutive points while Neumann was at set point, but a kill by Fleisher sealed the 25-21 set three win and 3-0 conference win.
In the 3-1 win over York (N.Y), Edmonds added another 11 kills. Banaag dished out 27 assists.
Neumann started strong, with Fleisher contributing an early service ace and capitalizing on attack errors by York to take a quick 3-0 lead. Tied at 19, the Knights scored six of the next seven points to take set one 25-20.
The Knights held a late 23-21 lead in set two, but the Cardinals were able to secure the next four points for a 25-23 win and tie the match at one.
The third set began with Neumann establishing an early lead, scoring the first seven points, highlighted by a service ace by Fleisher. The Knights cruised to the 25-13 win on a kill by Edmonds.
The Knights took a 14-13 edge in set four and scored seven of the next eight points to extend their lead to 21-14. Neumann won the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
Neumann (13-10, 5-2 United East) wraps up the regular season on Wednesday evening with a conference match against Carin University. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
