ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season falling to Cairn University 3-1 on Wednesday evening in United East Conference action.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights with 21 kills and a hitting percentage of .432. He also led the team with five service aces. With his kills in the match, the sophomore broke his own single season record in kills and now has 309 heading into the postseason.
Noah Banaag handed out 38 assists.
Christian DeMarco led the Knights with 12 digs, bringing his single-season total to 245 and breaking teammates
Brandon Baskerville's record of 238 from 2023.
All sets were a battle til set point. In set one, extra points were needed. Down 27-26, kills by Edmonds and
Mason Fleisher set up Edmonds for a service ace and 29-27 first set win.
In set two and the score Highlanders 23, Neumann 22, Cairn tallied two straight kills for a 25-22 win and tied the match at two.
Cairn took a 5-0 lead to start the third set and worked up an 11-4 lead. The Knights scored five straight points to pull within three, 19-16. Neumann would stay within striking distance and a service ace by
JP Perdomo made it a 24-23 score. The Highlanders got the next points for the 25-23 win.
The Highlanders scored the first four points of the fourth set. The teams continued to go back and forth with the teams trading points and leads. Tied at 23, Cairn pulled off the next two points for the 25-23 set win and 3-1 match win.
Neumann (13-11, 5-3 United East) will be the No. 4 seed in the United East postseason. The Knights will host No. 5 seeded Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
