Baseball Drops Close Game Against New England

Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University Baseball team came back from a six-run hole against New England College but ultimately dropped an 8-7 decision on Thursday afternoon.
 
Josh Finger led the Knights by going 3 for 5 with two runs batted in. Thomas Carroll drove in four runs as he went 1 for 5 with a home run. Joe Boccio went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored. Rey Carrier pitched a solid 2.1 innings in relief to slow down the New England offense, as he held them scoreless on four hits and a walk while striking out four.
 
New England got off to a quick start with a three-run triple in the first inning. They added an RBI single in the second and RBI doubles in the third and fourth for a 6-0 lead. Neumann clawed back into the game in the sixth as Tyler Kilmer scored on a Carroll groundout, followed by an RBI single by Anthony Rakotz.
 
In the seventh, Carroll blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall to get the Knights within one. Neumann completed the comeback in the top of the eighth as Finger hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield, tying the game at six, but the Pilgrims retook the lead in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double and an RBI single.
 
The Knights put together a two-out rally in the ninth inning starting with a Boccio walk. Andrew Brown followed with a single, putting the tying run on base. Finger hit a single into centerfield to plate Boccio but that rally fell a run short.
 
Neumann(2-2) will be back in action on Friday afternoon to close out their Spring trip against University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at 3:00 PM.
