ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Volleyball defeated the Pratt Institute on Saturday afternoon for their first ever United East Conference win, taking the day in straight sets.
Trey Edmonds led the attack with 11 kills and three service aces, both game highs.
Victor John and
Veryl Burns followed with five kills each.
Noah Banaag earned 14 assists and
Christian DeMarco led with 11 digs.
The Knights asserted themselves early on with a 5-1 run to start the match. Pratt pulled back within one at 7-6 but Neumann took command again with an 8-3 run to lead by six. They closed the first set with a 10-2 push, including the last five points to win 25-12.
With the second set even at three, the Knights pulled away with six straight points for a 9-3 lead. Both teams traded points until the set was at 14-8. A seven-point run made it 21-8 and Neumann took the set, 25-10.
In the third, Neumann continued to dominate as they led early, 6-1. That seemed to wake up Pratt as they went on a 7-1 run to take an 8-7 lead. The Knights went on to score five of the next six, but the Cannoneers scored seven of eight for a 16-13 edge. Again, both teams battled equally until the last stages when Neumann ended the match by scoring five of the last six points for a 25-22 win.
Neumann (7-7, 1-0 United East) will have a short turn around as they'll visit Wilson College on Monday night at 7:30 PM.
