ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team dropped Gwynedd Mercy University on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 7-1 to complete a three-game sweep in Atlantic East play.
Anthony Rakotz led by hitting 4 for 5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Joe Boccio drove in two runs, hitting 1 for 4 with a double.
Zach Mullins earned the win after hurling 6.2 innings. He allowed one run on six hits and two walks, fanning two. He improves his record to 2-1.
Gwynedd Mercy struck for their only run in the first inning on an RBI single to right field. Neumann responded in the third on a Rakotz RBI single and a two-run double by
Thomas Carroll for a 3-1 lead. They added on in the fifth when Boccio drove in Rakotz with an RBI double and
Andrew Brown followed with his own RBI double. In the sixth, Rakotz factored again with an RBI single up the middle followed by a Boccio RBI fielders' choice.
Neumann (15-6, 5-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they visit Marymount University to open a pivotal Atlantic East Conference three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
