Box Score 2 TYSONS, Va. – The Neumann University Baseball were swept in an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, falling to Marymount University by scores of 14-4 and 22-6.
Thomas Carroll led the Knights, going 4 for 6 in the two games, with two home runs, four runs batted in, and three runs scored.
Tyler Kilmer was 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored.
JerVal Shuler was 4 for 6 with a double and an RBI.
Marymount got on the board in game one in the second inning with a two-run double and an RBI single. They added on in the top of the third thanks to a sacrifice fly, a run-scoring wild pitch and two RBI singles for a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Neumann tried to claw back into the game as Carroll hit an RBI single and
Joe Boccio drove in a run on a grounder.
The Saints regained their seven-run lead in the fourth on an RBI single and an RBI double. They pulled ahead further in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, a two-run double, and an RBI single. Carroll hit a solo homer in the sixth for his second of the season, but after both teams traded runs in the seventh, the game finished.
Neumann got off to a strong start in the second game as Carroll hit his second home run of the day, and third of the season, a two-run shot. Kilmer later drove in a run on an RBI single for a three-run lead after a half inning. That lead would be short-lived as Marymount scored 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, and another 11 in the second. In the third,
Andrew Brown hit an RBI double, Kilmer drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Shuler hit an RBI double, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Neumann (15-8, 5-3 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Tuesday as they are scheduled to host Salisbury University in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 PM start.
