GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team upended Gwynedd Mercy University in an Atlantic East Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 19-8.
The Knights were led by a four goal, three assist performance by
Lindsey Fagan. With her fourth goal, Fagan became the all-time leader in goals in program history, passing Kaitlyn Conrad '19.
Krista Geibler added four goals,
Alena Catka had three goals and an assist, while
Neve Murphy notched a hat-trick.
Neumann went on an early roll as
Cassidy Starner, Fagan, and Murphy struck in the first 3:40 for the early 3-0 edge. Murphy responded nine seconds after a Gwynedd Mercy free position goal to start a five-goal run. Fagan and Geibler each scored twice over the next 2:27 to extend the Knights' lead to seven. The Griffins notched their second goal of the game with 6:48 left in the first as things slowed down, but over the last 1:23, Fagan, Catka, and Geibler pushed the lead to 11-2 after one quarter.
40 seconds into the second, Catka, while her squad was a player down made it a 10-goal advantage. With the clock running, the Knights settled into a possession game. Catka scored again and Murphy joined her, and Neumann led 14-2 at the halftime break.
Early in the third quarter, the Griffins popped a goal in but
Cionni Warrington, from the free position, and
Kenna Sanders, with a player down, would strike for the Knights. After a fourth Griffins goal,
Gia Caso and
Bekah Brosky finished the quarter off, giving Neumann an 18-4 lead.
Geibler got the scoring started in the fourth after receiving a pass from Caso for a 13 goal lead. As Neumann slowed down the offense, Gwynedd Mercy went on a four-goal run over the last 12:21 to close the gap to 11.
Neumann (7-8, 2-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
