Field Hockey Battles Against Blazers

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team fell to Hood College in a 4-2 contest on Saturday afternoon.
 
Hood tallied two goals in the first quarter to take an early lead. The Blazers added a goal early in the second quarter for a 3-1 score. The Knights started to put some pressure on Hood and had four penalty corner changes, including one just before halftime. Jess Silver got a shot on net before Neumann was awarded a penalty stroke. Cadence Conti converted the chance to put the Knights on the board in the 30th minute. The Blazers had a chance as time was winding down, but Caley Gee made the save to keep the score 3-1 at the break.
 
The Knights held the pace in the third, despite Hood scoring the lone goal of the quarter on a penalty stroke in the 33rd minute. In the 41st minute, Gee made a big save on another penalty stroke attempt.
Neumann continued to apply pressure with a series of penalty corners, but the Blazers goalie kept the Knights from getting the ball into the back of the net.
 
Neumann capitalized on a penalty corner in the 48th minute as Conti found the back of the net as the ball bounced around in front of the net. Silver drew the assist. Meghan Sheldrick had a chance in the final minute, but the Blazer goalie laid out for the save.
 
The Knights edged the Blazers on shots 13-12 overall. Silver led the Knights with five shots. Hood put 10 shots on the net, with Neumann putting nine towards the cage. Silver, Conti and Gabriella Cappelli each put two shots on net. Gee made six saves in net. Neumann led in penalty corners 15-4.
 
Neumann (2-3) hits the road for the next three games, beginning at Delaware Valley on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 4:00 PM.
