Field Hockey Takes Win over Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team evened their record with a 3-1 defeat of Delaware Valley University in a non-conference clash on Tuesday afternoon.

Natalia Thomas led the Knights with two goals on four shots, three on goal. Ayla Mergen earned two assists. Natalie Hackett and Cadence Conti each placed both of their shot attempts on goal. Caley Gee made two saves for the win.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Knights struck just 1:03 into the second as Thomas received a penalty corner pass from Mergen and fired in her first collegiate goal for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Jess Silver made it a two-goal lead when she moved inside the circle and slammed in her first goal of the season. The Knights dominated through the first half, out shooting the Aggies by a 9-2 margin. Seven of Neumann's shots were on goal while Delaware Valley was not able to trouble the goal.

Throughout the third quarter, the Knights continued to assert themselves in the offensive third of the field. Just over a minute in, they earned another penalty corner and would make the Aggies pay. Mergen again inserted to Thomas and she was able to thread a low shot through traffic for her second goal of the game. Although the Knights carried most of the play, Delaware Valley spoiled the shutout with just 36 seconds remaining in the game on a deflection after a penalty corner.

Neumann (3-3) will be back in action on Friday when they visit King's College in another non-conference match up. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
