GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team secured a 3-2 victory over Arcadia University on Wednesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, Arcadia struck first 1:50 into the second quarter and added a second goal with three minutes left before halftime. Neumann finally broke through a minute later with a goal from
Cadence Conti, assisted by
Natalia Thomas and the teams went into the break with a 2-1 score.
Conti scored her second goal of the game in the 38
th minute to equalize the score.
Jess Silver drew the assist. Three minutes later,
Gabriella Cappelli capitalized on an opportunity, giving Neumann a 3-2 lead. The Knights maintained pressure with additional attempts, including a blocked shot by
Ayla Mergen and a wide attempt by
Natalie Hackett. Arcadia managed a blocked shot and a defensive save by
Jamie Reed but could not find the equalizer before the quarter ended.
In the fourth quarter, Neumann generated offensive pressure with three penalty corners by Mergen, but they were unable to convert any into goals. At 55:12, Arcadia responded with a pair of corners, but could not take advantage. Despite these opportunities, neither team scored in the final quarter, and Neumann maintained its lead to secure a 3-2 victory over Arcadia.
Caley Gee made five saves in goal to pick up her fifth win of the season. Neumann led in overall shots 15-12, but Arcadia put more on net, 8-6. The Knights drew 10 penalty corners.
Neumann (5-3) returns home on Saturday and will welcome Eastern University. The homecoming game is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
