ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team battled in a 3-1 loss to Rowan University on Friday evening in day one of the Knights Invitational.
Julia Solomon led the Knights with nine kills.
Melissa Eddy added eight kills.
Hannah Strohm notched 21 digs.
Kyla Sayson handed out 14 assists and 11 digs.
The teams went back and forth in the first set. Rowan jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before Neumann tied the set at six on four straight kills. The teams then went back and forth with no one scoring more than three consecutive points. The Knights held a 24-21 advantage when the Profs tied the score. After trading points, Neumann was able to score three straight points to take a 29-27 set one win.
Rowan took an early 7-1 lead in set two and came away with a 25-12 win. The teams were tied at 13 in set three when the Profs scored 12 of the next 13 points for the 25-14 win. Rowan took a 6-0 lead in the fourth set and built a 22-5 advantage. The Knights were able to score six of the next seven points for a 23-11 score, but the Profs used a kill and a service ace to seal the 25-11 set four and 3-1 match win.
Neumann (1-5) will face Cedar Crest College (10am) and DeSales University (2pm) in day two of the Knights Invitational on Saturday.
