Neumann Take Two at Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team took a pair of matches at the Knights Invitational on Saturday. The Knights opened by winning 3-0 over Cedar Crest College. Neumann wrapped up the day with an exciting 3-2 win over DeSales University.
 
Melissa Eddy was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
Soleil-La'Jour Staggs led the Knights with eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Liv Bowers handed out 13 assists. Eddy tallied 10 service aces. Hannah Strohm notched 12 digs.
 
Cedar Crest took an 8-5 lead before Neumann went on to score 20 straight points for a 25-8 first set win. Eddy serviced the Knight to the win as she had eight service aces in the rally, including finishing the set with four straight.
 
The Knights opened set two with five straight points. Neumann scored consecutive points many times throughout the set to come away with the 25-17 set two win.
 
The Falcons scored the first four points of set three, but the Knights tallied the next five, including two service aces by Kera Kennedy. The teams remained close and were knotted at 24. Neumann took advantage of a Cedar Crest service error and attack error for the 26-24 set three win and 3-0 match win.
 
Neumann wrapped up the weekend with an exciting 3-2 win over DeSales. Eddy notched 13 kills in the match. Bri Gautier hit .348 with 10 kills. Kyla Sayson dished out 21 assists while Bowers added 16. Strohm finished 22 digs and Eddy with 19.
 
Tied at eight in the first set, the Knights scored eight of the next nine points for a 16-9 advantage. Neumann built its lead to 20-11 before DeSales started to make its move. The Bulldogs pulled to within three, 22-18 on a 7-1 run. Kills by Eddy and Julia Solomon brought the Knights to set point, 24-19. DeSales scored the next four points for a 24-23 score before a service error gave Neumann the 25-23 win.
 
DeSales took a 9-3 lead to start set two. Neumann worked its way back to within three, 20-17. After trading points, the Bulldogs scored the next four points for the 25-18 win to tie the match at one.
 
Each team took their turns at runs to open the third set until the teams were tied at 10. The score continued to go back and forth and with the Bulldogs holding a 20-19 lead, the Knights scored five straight points for a 24-20 edge. DeSales answered with three points but a kill by Taylor Long gave Neumann the 25-23 set three win.
 
The Bulldogs used a six-point run to take a 17-10 lead in set four and would force a fifth set with a 25-17 win.
 
The Knights started the fifth set with the first four points and built 9-3 advantage. Fitting to wrap up the weekend, Eddy's kill gave Neumann the 15-10 set win and 3-2 match win.
 
Neumann (3-5) travels to Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday evening for a match beginning at 7:00 PM.
