ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University Men's Hockey team scored two power-play goals on their way to a 4-1 win on Saturday night in a Middle Atlantic Conference game over Stevenson University.
Jared Coccimiglio led with a two-goal performance and a team-high seven shots on goal.
Lucas Culhane and
Niko Tishkevich assisted on both goals.
Sonny DiNubile,
Dustin Patterson,
Matt Dimaline, and
Max Donohoe each fired three shots on goal.
Christian Green earned with win in goal with 23 saves.
It only took until the 3:50 mark before Neumann got on the board. After a dump in, Culhane chased the puck down and cycled with Tishkevich. After a return pass, Culhane threw it across the crease to Coccimiglio who tapped it in for the 1-0 lead. With 2:54 left in the first, and the Knights on the power play, Culhane started a rush into the Mustang zone. He passed to Tishkevich who fired towards goal. Coccimiglio, who was streaking in from the point, tipped it in for his sixth goal of the season, and a two-goal edge.
Midway through the second, the Knights against used the power play to their advantage.
Jake Barkley wristed a shot from point and
Zack Smith potted home the rebound with 10:29 left in the period for his seventh of the season. Donohoe earned the secondary assist for the 3-0 lead. Just 1:06 later, Stevenson got on the board on a point shot through traffic that was deflected off a Neumann defender. The Mustangs continued to press throughout the rest of the period but were kept off the board.
In the third, the action was back-and-forth, with both teams getting high quality chances. With 1:40 left in regulation,
Matt Dimaline blocked a shot with Stevenson's goalie pulled and moved in unabated. He slipped in his third of the year to seal the game.
Neumann (8-5-1, 7-2-1 MAC) will return to action on Friday when they visit Wilkes University in the first game of the two-game set. Friday's game at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. will start at 4:50pm.
