GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team hung on for a 72-68 win at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
DJ Earl led the Knights with 21 points.
Jayson Love hit four three-pointers en route to 18 points.
Donte Dupriest tallied a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Jarell Keel grabbed 10 board and added nine points.
Tied at 21 midway through the first half, Love hit back-to-back three-pointers to start Neumann on a 9-1 run for a 30-22 advantage. The Griffins answered with nine of their own points and a 31-30 edge. A basket by Keel started the teams trading baskets for the rest of the half and the score was knotted at 38 at the break.
The teams remained close in the second quarter and had four tied scores, including being knotted at 60 with 5:46 left in regulation. A layup by Love and two by Keel put the Knights up by six, 66-60, with 2:49 on the clock. The Griffins pulled back within one, 66-65, with a basket-and-one with 42 ticks left. Dupriest answered with a layup. Earl hit two free throws before Gwynedd Mercy connected on a three-pointer for a 70-68 score. Love connected on two free throws with one second remaining to seal the 72-68 win.
Neumann (11-4, 3-1 Atlantic East) heads to Marywood on Wednesday for more conference action beginning at 6:00 PM.
