Men’s Basketball Undone by Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball dropped a 78-68 decision against Marywood University on Wednesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.

Marywood scored the game's first five points on their way to a 13-8 lead after five minutes of play. The Pacers pulled ahead by 11 after trading bucket throughout the next five minutes. Neumann tried to get back into the game but it proved to be a war of attrition. Every time the Knights scored, Marywood had a response. With 4:41 remaining in the half, the Pacers went off on an 11-2 run before Neumann scored the last four points, leading to a 43-29 deficit.

Again, the teams went back and forth before Neumann scored six points in a row to get back with 11 with 15:45 left. The Pacers took their largest lead with 11:12 remaining in the game on the strength of a 10-5 run over the previous four minutes, making it a 62-46 edge. That served to motivate the Knights and went notched the next 10 points over four minutes, trimming the lead to six. Again, Marywood responded with six of their own in a row, but Neumann went on a 10-2 run, highlighted by a Jarell Keel dunk, pulling them within four with 2:34 left. Unfortunately for the Knights, Marywood rattled off eight of the final ten points to seal the win.

DJ Earl led the scoring attack with 20 points. Keel picked up a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, adding four steals as well. Donte Dupriest had 16 points while Jayson Love had 10.

Neumann (11-5, 3-2 Atlantic East) will look to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM as they'll host Centenary University in another Atlantic East Conference clash.
