WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – After winning the opener on Friday night, the Neuman University Men's Hockey again defeated Wilkes University by a single goal as they took Saturday night's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) tilt by a score of 3-2.
Wilkes got things going with a power play goal just 3:29 into the first period. Just over five minutes later,
Abram Snider started a rush from his own zone. He passed ahead to
Dexton Mozell, and it went on to
Odin Ford. Ford took a wrister from the top of the faceoff circle and scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game. It seemed like the game would stay that way to end the period but with 5.4 seconds on the clock,
Zack Smith backhanded in his eighth goal of the season.
Jake Barkley earned an assist as the Knights took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
The middle period was evenly matched with both teams notching 11 shots on goal each, but the Colonels tied the game up with just over a minute left. With 12:27 left in the third, Neumann took the lead for good.
Dustin Patterson found a loose puck in the slot of poked in his third goal of the year.
Akezhan Melis got the lone assist on the game-winner.
Matt Dimaline led the offensive attack with five shots on goal. Smith followed with four. Barkley had a big night in the face-off circle, winning 13 of the 18 draws he took.
Christian Green picked up the win in goal with 23 saves.
Neumann (10-5-1, 9-2-1 MAC) will return to action on Friday night when they host Misericordia University. The opening puck drop from the IceWorks Skating Complex is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
