ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision on Friday night against Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game.
Misericordia got on the board first, 4:51 into the game on a pass from behind the net that was deflected in for a 1-0 lead. Just under three minutes later,
Jake Barkley escaped the zone and sent an outlet pass to
Max Donohoe. As he streaked into the offensive zone, he found
Zack Smith in the slot, and he picked the corner for his ninth goal of the season to tie the game.
Late in the period, the Cougars regained their lead for good. As the Knight tried to escape the zone with 2:27 left, the puck was intercepted and a point shot pinballed in for a 2-1 lead. They would add a goal in the second and two in the third, including an empty netter to seal the game.
Jared Coccimiglio led Neumann with four shots on goal. Donohoe and
Niko Tishkevich added three shots each. Barkley was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 13 of the 15 draws he took. As a team the Knights won 36 of 58 faceoffs but struggled on the power play going scoreless in six opportunities.
Neumann (10-6-1, 9-3-1 MAC) and Misericordia will again get together on Saturday up in Scranton for another MAC match-up. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
