ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team came back from a 16-point deficit in the second half but fell to Atlantic East Conference foes, Pratt Institute on Wednesday night by a final score of 84-79.
Both teams traded small runs over the first five minutes of the game before
Izaiah Johnson Young-El hit a three pointer for a 15-12 lead. Over the next seven minutes, Pratt took control of the game with a 16-7 run for a 28-22 edge with 5:31 left in the half. The Knights fought back with an 8-4 run to pull within a point at the half.
The Cannoneers kept the one-point lead over the first 2:30 of the second but then went off for 10 points in a row to lead 45-34 with 16:35 left. Another 6-0 run gave Pratt their largest lead of the game at 16 with 13:39 left. Neumann started to chip away as they went on a 12-2 run over the next 2:46 to get within six. With 5:45 left, the Knights pulled even at 68 but a 6-2 run saw them fall behind again. With 2:17 remaining in regulation, the Knights capped off an 8-2 run with a
Jayson Love three pointer to give them their first lead since it was 15-12. Sadly, for the Knights, a 7-1 Cannoneer run closed out the game and the win.
Neumann had five players with double digit points, led by Love's 18 points.
Miles Johnson and
Jarell Keel each contributed double double performances with Johnson finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Keel had 12 points and 14 rebounds, half of which were on the offensive glass.
DJ Earl had 13 points and Johnson Young-El had 12.
Neumann (12-6, 4-3 Atlantic East) will try to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they visit Immaculata University for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
