IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team got a career-high 35 points from
DJ Earl on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as they fell to Atlantic East rivals, Immaculata University by a final score of 75-68.
The game stayed close to start things off as Immaculata carried a 7-6 lead after five minutes of play. Although the Knights took the lead on the next possession, they would give up a 12-4 run to fall behind 19-12 with 10:27 left in the half. Neumann responded with a quick 5-0 run but the Mighty Macs would rattle off six straight points on their way to an 18-7 run of their own, pushing the lead to 13 with a minute left. Another quick five points for Neumann closed out the half and they were behind by eight heading into the locker room.
The Knights came out with jump in the second with five points to start, edging to withing three just 1:13 in. Immaculata forged right back ahead by double digits with a 10-3 run in a high-scoring start to the period. Neumann would get the next two field goals but again the Mighty Macs had an answer, putting together a 10-3 run, matching their largest lead of the game at that point. The Knights put together another comeback over the next five minutes notching 13 of the next 15 points, pulling within two at 59-57. They got within one with 4:05 left in regulation but Immaculata closed the game with an 11-5 run to seal the win.
Jayson Love contributed 15 points to add to Earl's 35.
Jarell Keel and
Donte Dupriest hounded the boards with 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively.
Neumann (12-7, 4-4 Atlantic East) will return to action on Wednesday night when they visit Marymount University for a 7:00 PM start.
