ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team suffered a 58-54 decision against Marymount University in an Atlantic East Conference game on Wednesday evening.
The game was close throughout the evening as neither team had a lead larger than six points. The game also featured 11 lead changes and six ties. With 13:04 left in the first half, and the Knights carrying a 12-8 lead, Marymount went on an 11-5 run to take a 19-17 lead with 8:34 left. Neumann responded with two straight three-pointers as part of a 9-3 run to regain the lead at 26-22. The Saints closed out the last 3:35 with nine of the next 15 points to pull within one at the break.
Neumann extended to 37-31 to start the second but Marymount went on an 11-4 run for a 42-41 lead. A 6-0 Knights run was followed by an 8-0 Saint run as they took the lead for good. With two seconds left, Neumann purposely missed a free throw but couldn't nab the rebound, allowing Marymount to seal the win with their own free throws.
DJ Earl led the Knights' effort with a game-high 21 points.
Donte Dupriest added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Jarell Keel finished three blocks.
Neumann (12-8, 4-5 Atlantic East) will try to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they host Saint Elizabeth University for a 3:00 PM start.
