ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team fell in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Friday night against Stevenson University by a final score of 3-2.
Stevenson opened the scoring at the 7:19 mark of the first period as they popped home a rebound for a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes into the second, Neumann broke through.
Matt Dimaline fought for the puck in the corner and pushed it back to
Shawn Eliav. He slapped it towards the goal where it was deflected in by
Zack Smith for his sixth goal of the season, tying the game at one. Three minutes later, the Mustangs retook the lead with a 5-on-3 goal.
Early in the third period, Neumann pressed for the equalizer and at the 4:08 mark, they got the game even. A brilliant individual effort by
Niko Tishkevich drew a delayed penalty as he dangled through traffic to maintain possession and pressure inside the offensive zone. As he fell, he left the puck aside for
Odin Ford who deftly swung a pass in the slot to
Lucas Culhane. He fired a wrist shot that was deflected by
Jared Coccimiglio for his fifth goal of the season to make it a 2-2 game. Unfortunately for Neumann, the Mustangs potted home the game-winner with another power play goal with 10:31 left in regulation.
Culhane led the Knights with four shots on goal and five blocked shots.
Sonny DiNubile, Matt Donohoe, and
Judd Katz had three shots each in a balanced attack, as Neumann outshot Stevenson by a 29-20 margin.
Cole DeFazio made 17 saves in goal.
Neumann (7-5-1, 6-2-1) will look to grab the finale of this weekend's two-game series against Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
