PITTSTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team took to the ice for the last time in the regular season and put up a 3-3 tie. Knights won the shootout in six rounds, 2-1.
The first period was relatively quiet until King's got on the board with just 1:11 left. The doubled the lead to 2-0, 3:46 into the second with an odd-man rush. Five minutes later, the Knights were able to establish their offense.
Sonny DiNubile moved the puck into the offensive zone and got it to
Jared Coccimiglio. His shot was stopped but
Niko Tishkevich found the rebound and slipped in his ninth goal of the year.
With 5:03 to go in the middle period, a giveaway led to a
Tyler Kennedy shot being deflected in by
Max Donohoe, tying the game at two. At the midway point of the third, the Monarchs regained the lead with a power play goal from the point. Again, Neumann was able to respond, this time with their own power play goal less than two minutes later. Donohoe sniped in his second goal of the game, and 16
th of the season with DiNubile getting the lone assist.
The Knights had two power plays in overtime but couldn't find the mark as the game ended in a tie, and headed to a shootout. King's had a 1-0 lead after two rounds. In the third, Tishkevich was able to score to force extra rounds. In the sixth,
Tyler Ray finished the night with a backhand goal, giving Neumann a second point in the standings.
In addition to his two goals, Donohoe led with six shots on goal.
Shawn Eliav and Tishkevich had five shots each.
Matt Dimaline secured important possession as he won 16 of the 29 faceoffs he took.
Christian Green got the win in goal with 40 saves.
Neumann (15-8-2, 14-5-2 MAC) was now move into the playoffs as the conference's regular season champion and as the top seed. They will host Alvernia University on Saturday, February 28
th in the Middle Atlantic Conference semifinals. Puck drop from the IceWorks Skating Complex is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
