LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team battled in the United East Conference opener, falling to Cairn University 3-0. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-23.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights with 15 kills, six digs and a .357 hitting percentage.
Noah Banaag handed out 21 assists.
Christian DeMarco finished with six digs.
With the Highlanders leading 4-3, they scored four straight points for and 8-3 advantage. The teams traded points and with Cairn up 23-18, Neumann scored three straight points, starting with a kill by
Isaiah Thomas. The Highlanders used two Knights miscues to take set one 25-21.
Cairn jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the second set. Neumann answered with six of the next seven points to pull back to 14-11. With the Highlanders leading 23-19, the Knights tallied the next three points to get within one, 23-22. Cairn sealed the second set win with a kill and a service ace.
The teams stayed neck and neck in the third set and were knotted at 23. The Highlanders were able to hold off the Knights forcing a fourth set and took set three 25-23 on a kill.
Neumann (1-8, 0-1 United East) returns home tomorrow and will host Hood College beginning at 7:00 PM.
