ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Volleyball team upended Hood College in a non-conference match on Thursday night, 3-0.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights offensively with 13 kills, three service aces, and a .310 hitting percentage while adding seven digs.
Isaiah Thomas added 10 kills, and
Noah Banaag had 27 assists. Defensively,
Arian Santos also had seven digs with
John Soeffing contributing three block solos and four block assists.
The Knights got off to a 6-3 lead before Hood fought back to tie the set at eight. From there, neither team had a run of more than two points as the Blazers carried a 17-15 lead. At that stage, Neumann scored five in a row to take a three-point lead but Hood notched five of the next six to lead 22-21. With the Blazers up 24-23, the Knights scored three in a row to steal the set, 26-24.
After giving up the first two points of the second, Neumann scored eight of the next nine points for an 8-3 lead. Hood came back within two at 11-9 but a 5-2 re-established a five point lead at 16-11. They extended the lead to 24-17 and after the Blazers scored three in a row, the Knights closed the set in victory.
The final set was much like the first with neither team taking a lead of more than three until late. With Neumann leading 17-16, a 5-0 run knocked Hood on their heels. The Blazers scored four of five to try and keep the match alive but the last two points belonged to the Knights and they sealed the match with a 25-20 set win.
Neumann (2-8, 0-1 United East) will be back in action on Saturday, March 7
th when they visit Wilson College for a 1:00 PM start.
