ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team picked up five goals in the first period on their way to a 6-2 win over their Middle Atlantic Conference rivals, Wilkes University on Friday night.
Matt Dimaline led with two goals and an assist.
Max Donohoe had a goal and two assists while
Lucas Culhane had three assists.
Christian Green made 34 saves for his ninth win of the year.
The Knights got on the board with 14:02 left in the first period when Culhane grabbed the puck behind the net. He found Dimaline in front of the net and threw it across to Donohoe who fired it in for his 10th goal of the season. They doubled their advantage when Dimaline received a pass from Donohoe and rifled it in for a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, while on the power play, Dimaline deflected in a Donohoe pass for his first goal of the year. With 3:15 left,
Judd Katz got a pass in the slot from
Jake Barkley and snuck it through for his second of the year. Finally,
Akezhan Melis moved in against four defenders and scored his first goal in a Neumann sweater with only nine seconds left in the period.
Wilkes tried to assert themselves in the second, outshooting the Knights 17-5 in the period, but it was Neumann who struck again. With 2:23 remaining,
Dexton Mozell caught Wilkes' goalie leaning and scored his second of the season, making it 6-0 after two. The Colonels broke the shutout just over minutes into third and added one more with 6:59 remaining in regulation.
With tonight's win, Neumann (13-7-1, 12-4-1 MAC) cliched a spot in the MAC playoffs for the second year in a row. The Knights will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they visit Stevenson University for a 3:00 PM start.
