REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team rose up from a 2-0 deficit against Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon, defeating their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rival, 3-2.
Stevenson got on the board 6:28 into the game on a tight one-time shot. They doubled their lead with 1:08 left in the first, taking two-goal lead into the intermission. Neumann chipped away at their deficit, turning the play in their favor in the middle period. It finally yielded a goal with 3:27 left.
Max Donohoe received a hard pass across the slot from
Matt Dimaline and ripped it home.
Lucas Culhane earned the secondary assist as the Knights got within one.
Early in the third, Neumann had to fight off a 5-on-3 shorthanded situation on that turned the momentum in their favor. With 8:45 left in regulation, Culhane broke
Judd Katz into the offensive zone. His shot was deflected by Donohoe for his second goal of the game and 12
th of the season, tying the game. Six minutes later,
Akezhan Melis moved into the zone with speed and left the puck for
Jake Barkley. Barkley found Melis in front of the net and Melis fired in his second goal of the season with 2:31 left.
Donohoe's two-goal game was punctuated by his team-leading five shots on goal. Barkley had four shots while
Tony Andrews had three. Katz had a big game defensively with four blocked shots.
Christian Green made 40 saves for the 10
th win of his season.
Neumann (14-7-1, 13-4-1 MAC) has now won four in a row and is alone atop the conference with three games left in the regular season. They'll head to Hersheypark Arena on Friday for a road match-up against Lebanon Valley College. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
