OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell 3-1 to host Stevenson University and then 3-0 to Eastern Mennonite University.
Isaiah Thomas led the Knights with eight kills and 11 digs against the Mustangs.
Trey Edmonds and
Noah Banaag also each had 11 digs. Banaag handed out 20 assists.
The first set went back and forth and took a few extra points to decide. With Stevenson holding a 23-22 edge, Neumann capitalized on some Mustang errors for a 24-23 advantage. Stevenson then took the next three points for a 25-24 first set win.
In set two, the Knights took a 3-3 tie and scored the next four points for a 7-3 lead. Neumann slowly built a lead and on two kills by Thomas held a 14-6 advantage. The Knights used the advantage built to come away with a 25-23 set two win and tie the match at one.
Stevenson used a 7-0 run in the middle of set three to come away with a 25-11 win. The Mustangs slowly built their lead throughout the fourth set for a 25-17 fourth set and 3-1 match win.
Against Eastern Mennonite, Edmonds had seven kills. Banaag dished out 15 assists.
Christian DeMarco notched six digs.
The Royals jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the match. The Knights rallied for the next four points. Eastern Mennonite took the first set 25-21. The Royals held the pace in sets two and three for 25-14 and 25-19 wins and a 3-0 match win.
Neumann (1-3) hosts Cairn on Tuesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM.
