Women’s Hockey Takes Down Stevenson

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team got into the win column with a 3-2 win over Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play.

The Knights got on the board on a surprise goal just 3:58 into the game. Kenna Sanders grabbed the puck below Stevenson's goal line and banked it in off the goalie for her second of the season. Harper Oakes earned the assist for a 1-0 lead. With 5:37 left in the first, the Mustangs tied the game on a wraparound.

After a scoreless second period, Neumann retook the lead on a Sammie Haun power play goal with 14:41 left in the third for her fifth of the season. Charlotte Labre and Sanders assisted for a 2-1 lead. Stevenson took a chance by pulling their goalie for an extra attacker with five minutes left. It paid off as they scored the equalizer with 4:14 on the clock. They kept the goalie pulled looking to take a regulation win, but it was Neumann who would prevail as Kaila Booth would score into the empty net while shorthanded for her sixth of the year.

Labre starred on both sides of the ice leading the Knights with four shots on goal and four blocked shots. She also won 12 of the 19 faceoffs she took. Sanders, in addition to her two-point game, won 12 of 18. Noelle Woodard earned the win in goal with a 43 save performance.

Neumann (6-16, 4-14) will return to the ice on Friday when they visit Lebanon Valley College. Puck drop from Hersheypark Arena is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
