Brooks Breaks Career Steals Record at Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Donovan Brooks stole second in the third inning of Tuesday afternoon's game for his 57th steal at Neumann, breaking Shawn Vega's program record set in 2023, as the Knights dropped 17-5 decision in a non-conference game at Eastern University.  
 
After a scoreless first inning, JerVal Shuler smashed a one-out solo home run, his second long ball of the season for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Yoan Feliz knocked out his first homer of the season, doubling the Knights' edge.
 
In the third, Brooks led off with s single and stole second for the program record. After Anthony Rakotz walked, he advanced to second on a pickoff of Brooks. Following a lineout, Andrew Brown drove him in with an RBI single up the middle to give the Knights a three-run lead.
 
Eastern fought back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single. They took the lead on two RBI hits in the fourth. In the fifth, the Eagles made it an 8-3 game with an RBI double, a throwing error, and a two-run home run. Two more runs were plated in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
 
Neumann got their offense on track in the seventh inning as Rakotz led off with a walk and moved around to third on a Nick Ciesielka double. After a call to the bullpen by Eastern, Brown singled up the middle to plate Rakotz and move Ciesielka to third. Shuler followed with an RBI bunt fielder's choice, getting the Knights within five. The Eagles got those two runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double and added five more in the eighth.
 
Brown led Neumann, hitting 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs batted in. Shuler also drove in two, hitting 1 for 3. Alex Gambol got the start on the mound and went 3.1 innings. He gave up four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three. His record is now 1-1.
 
Neumann (4-2) will turn right around for another non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon as they'll visit Alvernia University for a 3:30 PM start.
