Baseball Stops St. Joseph’s- Long Island in Extras

Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Anthony Rakotz and Tyler Kilmer each drove in two runs in the 11th inning as the Neumann University Baseball team upended Saint Joseph's University- Long Island on Thursday night by a final score of 11-7.
 
JerVal Shuler led the Knights offensively as he hit 3 for 4 with a grand slam, two doubles, four runs batted in, and two runs scored. Donovan Brooks was also 3 for 4 with a double, two hit by pitches, and three runs scored. He also broke his own single game program record with six stolen bases. Andrew Brown had two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Cam Leighton picked up the win in relief for his first win of the season. He went the final four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks, striking out three.

Both teams traded runs in the first as Neumann scored on a Brown sacrifice fly and St. Joseph's on a grounder. After a scoreless second, the Knights put up five in the third as Nick Ciesielka drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Shuler had a grand slam for a 6-1 lead. Starting in the fourth, the Golden Hawks started to chip away. They picked up an RBI single and then in the fifth, they got within one thanks for an RBI single, an RBI double, and run that came in on an error. The Knights added a run in the sixth when Blake Decker dropped down on an RBI sacrifice bunt but a Saint Joseph's sacrifice fly in the seventh and another run on an error in the ninth forced extra innings. 

After a scoreless tenth, Yoan Feliz reached second on an error in the 11th. Brook was hit by a pitch and stole second after Feliz was advanced to third on a Decker sacrifice bunt. Anthony Rakotz gave the Knights the lead for good with a two-run double down the left field line. Ciesielka followed with a walk and two batters later, Tyler Kilmer brought in two insurance runs on a single to centerfield to clinch the game.  
 
Neumann (3-1) will close out this year's Spring Break trip on Friday afternoon when they take on Delaware Valley University. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
