Baseball Doubles Up Delaware Valley to Close Spring Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University Baseball team finished up a successful Spring Break trip in the Palmetto state on Friday evening as they defeated Delaware Valley University by a final score of 16-8.

Andrew Brown had a big day, hitting 2 for 3 with a double, four runs batted in, and a run scored. Yoan Feliz also drove in four on a 2 for 5 day, adding a double and he scored once. Anthony Rakotz was 2 for 5 as well with a stolen base and three runs. Jackson Armiger was a part of five runs as he drove in two and scored three.

The bullpen had a strong outing as Tommy Angelucci, Kyle Dailey, Max Brown, and Rey Carrier combined for 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Delaware Valley led off the game with a solo home run but, in the bottom of the first, the Knights had an immediate response. Anthony Rakotz led off with a single and advanced to third when Nick Ciesielka doubled to right. Andrew Brown tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Rakotz. JerVal Shuler gave Neumann the lead as he tripled to score Ciesielka. Jackson Armiger, making the first appearance of his career, drew a walk and two batters later, Brayden Fields picked up his first collegiate hit and RBI with a single to score Shuler. Brody Foltz also got his first career hit when he doubled to score Armiger and Fields for a 5-1 lead.

In the third, the Aggies got back into the game on an RBI grounder, and two RBI singles, pulling within one, but in the bottom of the inning, the Knights responded when Armiger led off with a single and scored on Yoan Feliz' double, his first career RBI. After a Fields walk, Delaware Valley made a pitching change. Foltz moved the runners up 90 feet and Blake Decker drove in Feliz on a ground ball. A wild pitch, a Brown RBI single, and a two-run double by Armiger, and a two-run single by Feliz closed an eight-run inning as 12 men came to the plate, leading to a 13-4 edge.

With two outs in the fourth, Rakotz singled, moved to second when Ciesielka was hit by a pitch, and moved to third on a double steal. Brown drove them both in with a double. Delaware Valley put up four runs in the seventh on an RBI single, a two-run single, and a passed ball to get them within seven.

In the eighth, Jordan Tocci came into the game and led off with a single. Shuler reached on an error and both runners moved up on a grounder. Feliz brought in Tocci on a groundout to close out the scoring.

Neumann (4-1) will now head back north and get ready for a Tuesday afternoon non-conference game at Eastern University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
