CHESTER, Pa. - The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team suffered an 11-7 loss on Saturday afternoon against Widener University in non-conference action.
The game went scoreless for the first seven minutes before Widener notched the first. They would score twice more in the first and the first four of the second for a 7-0 lead with 3:24 left in the half. Neumann broke the shutout when
Krista Geibler got her fourth of the season. 19 seconds later,
Arianna Hutchison got her first of the season, but goals assisted by
Maggie Miller. With 13 seconds left,
Rachel Roane pulled the Knights within four.
4:26 into the third, the Knights closed out their run with a goal by
Ainsley George, her first of the year. The Pride were able to stop Neumann's momentum , scoring the last two goals of the third for a 9-4 edge.
Neumann continued to attempt a comeback when
Gracie Kucia scored her second of the year with 11:56 left. 5:18 later, George scored her second but the Pride got the next two to seal the game. Roane scored with six seconds left for her fifth of the season but they ran out of time.
Both Roane and George scored twice as Roane added three draw controls. Miller ended the afternoon with five assists while
Alena Catka led with seven draw controls.
Sarah Kiraly finished with five saves in goal.
Neumann (0-3) will return home for the first time on Friday afternoon when they host SUNY Canton for a 4:00 PM non-conference tilt.
