ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated John Jay College 16-4 in seven innings on Thursday afternoon.
Josh Lillis started on the mound and went 4.0 innings for his third win of the season. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out six.
Kaden Netta,
Brady Middlekauff and
Noah Murdock all pitched an inning in the win.
Brayden Fields went 3-for-5, scored three runs in and knocked in two.
Nick Ciesielka was also 3-for-5 with a double and a triple, an RBI and scored four runs. Each Knight that had a plate appearance reached base via a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch.
With one out in the first, Fields reached on a bunt single and came around to score as the Bloodhounds threw the ball away on a failed pick-off attempt.
The Knights plated seven runs in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded,
Trevor Yeager drew a walk.
Anthony Rakotz then tripled to knock in three runs. Fields followed with a double to score Rakotz for a 6-0 score. With the bases loaded again,
Blake Decker singled to score Ciesielka and Fields.
John Jay got on the board without a hit in the third. The bloodhounds were hit-by-pitch to open the inning, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
Neumann answered with four more runs in the home half of the third. With two runners on base, Fields doubled to knock in a run. Cieskilka had an RBI fielders' choice.
Andrew Brown and
Yoan Feliz hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 12-1 score after three innings.
Alex Gambol hit a two-run homerun in the fifth.
Colton Shaub and Decker hit back-to-back doubles for another run.
John Jay scored three runs in the top of the sixth for a 15-4 score. The Knights added one more run in the sixth as Shaub reached on a fielders' choice to score Cieskilka.
Neumann (14-10-1) will host Rosemont for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM.
