ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball split a non-conference doubleheader with Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon. The Knights took game one 8-1 while the Ravens won game two 11-8.
Alex Gambol started game one on the mound and went 5.2 innings for the win. He allowed one run on one hit and struck out 13.
Rey Carrier pitched 1.1 hitless innings.
The Knights put a run on the board in the first
Anthony Rakotz doubled and scored on a fielder's choice by
Nick Ciesielka. In the third,
Joe Boccio walked and scored on an RBI groundout by
Brody Foltz.
Trevor Yeager knocked in
Yoan Feliz with a single and a 3-0 Neumann lead.
Ciesielka doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on an RBI groundout by Boccio. The Knights put together a string of hits in the fifth and scored three for a 7-0 score. The Ravens scored their lone run in the top of the sixth. Neumann got it right back in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-1 final.
In game two, Rosemont scored a run in the top of the first. The Knights put together hits in the bottom of the second, including a triple from
Cody Rullo, to score three and take a 3-1 advantage. In the top of the third, the Ravens tied the game at three.
The Knights took the lead right back in the bottom half of the third as
Colton Shaub singled and scored on a single by
Jordan Tocci. Tocci came around to score on a single by Yeager.
The Ravens were able to plate four runs in the fourth in the back-and-forth game and take a 7-5 advantage. Rosemont put together another four-run inning in the sixth for an 11-5 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Knights loaded the bases with a hit and two walks. With one out, Rakotz singled and everyone moved up a base.
Jackson Armiger drew a bases-loaded walk. With two outs,
JerVal Shuler walked with the bases still loaded for an 11-8 score. That as close as the Knights could get and dropped the nightcap 11-8.
Jack Holladay started the game on the mound and went 3.1 innings in the loss.
Max Brown,
Kyle Dailey and
Andreas Johnson rounded out the game.
Neumann (15-11-1) will host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game on Tuesday beginning at 3:30 PM.
