LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Neumann University Track & Field teams picked up a number of podium finishes on Thursday afternoon as they competed in the Lincoln University Invite.
Bryan Castro got the first win of the day as he bested the field in the men's 5000-meter race with a time of 18:49.97, his first time competing at that distance. The team of Gianna Manley-Perez,
Val Castillo,
Ciana Rosado, and
Leilia Dennis finished the 4x100 relay in a time of 53.79, good enough for a second place finish. Rosado added a personal best in the 400 with a time of 1:03.69.
In the men's 400,
Ethan John was the Knights' top finisher with a time of 51.95 seconds, his top time of his career.
Jamar Davis and
Ty Billingslea also had personal bests with times of 52.14 and 57.11, respectively.
Isaac Rose got a mark of 1:02.96. Manley-Perez had a solid showing in the 100-meter with a time of 13.67. On the men's side,
Jahmeen Ross,
Olufeyisara Olufehinti, and Billingslea all finished back-to-back with times of 11.72, 11.89, and 12.27.
Castillo came in second place in the women's 800-meter with a time of 2:51.43. In the 200, Rosado had a time of 27.84 to lead the Neumann racers. Manley-Perez was next with a time of 29.38 and Dennis grabbed a time of 30.67. John, in the men's 200, finished in 22.22 seconds with Ross behind him at 23.97. Billingslea and Olufehinti each earned personal bests with times of 24.52 and 24.56.
Katie Baier raced in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time in her career and earned a second place finish with a time of 15:52.53. Closing out the track events, the quartet of Davis, Ross, John, and Billingslea earned their own second place showing with a time of 3:53.9 in the 4x400 relay.
In the field events,
Kyleigh Joniec and
Sydney Wilson placed first and second, respectively in the javelin throw with distances of 28.72 and 23.1 meters.
Alli Siravo nabbed a distance of 16.63 and
Savanah Kirk got a 15.17. In the men's javelin, Rose tossed a distance of 29.68 meters. Siravo kept the good results coming with a win in the women's shot put, putting up a distance of 9.78 meters. Wilson finished third with an 8.80 and Kirk earned a personal best at 7.86. Dennis closed out the day with a second place finish in the high jump at 1.35 meters.
Neumann will have a quick turnaround as they will compete in the Paul Donahue Invite over the next two days. The event is hosted by Widener University in Chester.
