Softball Readies for Atlantic East Conference Tournament

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball team has once again qualified for the Atlantic East Conference postseason tournament, which will be played on May 2nd and 3rd.
 
The Knights will be the No. 2 seed in this year's event, thanks to a 7-5 conference record. Overall, they are 19-18. Marymount University collected the top seed with an 11-1 conference record, finishing the regular season with a 21-17 overall mark. Marywood University, like Neumann, had a 7-5 record but fell to the No. 3 seed due to tie-breakers. They are 19-14 overall. Rounding out field is Saint Elizabeth University who have a record of 16-17-1 overall, and 5-7 in Atlantic East play, as they narrowly edged out Immaculata on a tie-breaker.
 
The action will begin on Saturday with an 11:00 AM match-up between Marymount and Saint Elizabeth. The Knights will follow with their game against Marywood at 1:00 PM. The teams that lose their tournament opening game will clash in an elimination game at 3:00 PM with the winners of their first game playing at 5:00 PM.
 
On Sunday, the tournament's fifth game will have the winner of game 3 against the loser of game 4 at 12:00 PM. The winner advances to take on the winner of game 4. If both teams who play in game 6 are 2-1, a winner-take-all game 7 will be played to decide the conference champion.
 
The Knights were bested by Marymount in their regular season doubleheader as the Saints won by scores of 12-3 and 8-3. Neumann splits their two games against Marywood as they fell in game 1, 7-5, and won the second game, 5-2. The Knights swept Saint Elizabeth by scores of 8-5 and 9-2.
 
Neumann's top offensive threat is Marina Costello, who has a .444 batting average with a home run, 13 doubles, 26 runs batted in, and 14 runs scored. She is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak. Ellie Zarnawski hit .396 with 10 doubles, a triple, 25 RBI, and 21 runs scored. Emily Ammon is a .360 hitter with five doubles, four triples, 15 RBI, and 36 runs scored. She also has a program single season record 37 stolen bases, along with 18 walks.
 
Rebecca DiLeo has led the way in the circle with a 7-4 record and a 2.96 earned run average. In 68.2 innings, she's allowed 81 hits, 43 runs, 29 earned, 10 walks, and 41 strikeouts. Costello has a 4-4 record with an earned run average of 3.46. in her 56.2 innings, she's allowed 28 earned runs and struck out 58.
 
The tournament is hosted by Marymount University and will be played at Bancroft Park in Arlington, Va.
