Atlantic East Honors Six Knights in Softball Awards

HADDONFIELD, N.J. – The Atlantic East Conference announced their postseason awards for Softball on Thursday afternoon, and a sextet of Neumann University student-athletes were recognized. Marina Costello, Rebecca DiLeo, and Emily Ammon were named to the all-conference First team while Rylie Norris, Tori Spinella, and Ellie Zarnawski made the Second team. Additionally, Norris was named the conference's Elite Scholar Athlete.
 
Costello was a two-way threat all season long. At the plate, she had a batting average of .424, a slugging percentage of .612, and an on-base percentage of .462, all top ten marks in the Atlantic East. The grad student had 13 doubles, which was tied for fourth in the conference, one home run, 27 runs batted in, and 15 runs scored. In the circle, she was 5-4 with five complete games, and a conference fifth best 3.79 earned run average. In 64.2 innings, she allowed 35 earned runs on 83 hits and 26 walks, striking out 62 which was fifth in the conference. Back on March 9th, she was named to the weekly Honor Roll, and this is her second First team honor.
 
DiLeo also had success on both sides of the field. Pitching-wise, she was 6-4 with an earned run average of 3.07, which was second in the conference. In 73 innings, she allowed 47 runs, 32 earned, on 89 hits and 10 walks while striking out 41, which was sixth in the conference. Also, her .284 opposing batting average was second in the Atlantic East. As a hitter, she hit .333 with a double, five RBI, and six runs scored. The First-Year was named to the weekly Honor Roll two times.
 
Ammon shattered several speed records for the Knights this season. On April 15th against Widener, she stole six bases, breaking the single-game program record. She broke her own single season record on April 18th against Gwynedd Mercy, finishing the season with 40, the most in the conference. The Senior also extended her career record at Neumann, finishing with 107. She hit .366 with six doubles, a conference fourth best four triples, and 15 RBI. Her 39 runs scored and 20 walks led the Atlantic East, and her 10 runners caught stealing was second. She was named to the weekly Honor Roll on April 20th, and this honor marks her second All-Conference First team selection.
 
Norris had a batting average of .296 with a double, five runs batted in, and 11 runs scored. She is also the Elite Scholar Athlete Award winner. This honor is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's championships.
 
Spinella hit .295 this season with three doubles, a triple, 13 runs batted in, and 10 runs scored. From April 7th to April 13th, she had a seven-game hitting streak as part of a stretch that had her pick up hits in 12 of 13 games.
 
Zarnawski was honored by the Atlantic East twice, being named the Player of the Week on March 9th, and to the weekly Honor Roll on March 23rd. She hit .385 with 10 doubles and 22 runs scored. Her 42 hits were ninth in the conference, her 28 RBI was eighth, and she added a triple and five stolen bases.
