ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team defeated King's College on a Senior Day Saturday afternoon by a final score of 2-1.
Natalie Zoffer led the Knights with a goal and an assist on six shots, four on goal.
Brogan Heilig contributed four shots with two on goal while
Angie Ricci came off the bench with three shots, two on goal.
Shannon Roberts got the win in goal win one save.
The first quarter went scoreless although Neumann outshot King's 5-0, 3-0 on goal. The Knights continued to tilt the field in their favor and finally broke through. After a corner.
Natalia Thomas pushed a pass to Heilig. Her shot was stopped but Zoffer lifted in the rebound for her 1
st goal of the season, 3:11 into the second. 27 seconds later, on another corner, a scramble ensued in front of the goalie. The ball squirted out to
Rachel Roane who powered in her first of the season for the 2-0 lead.
King's had their first opportunity of the game when, with 8:30 left in the third, Roberts had to turn away a one-time shot. The third quarter ended without a goal, but King's got on the board early in the fourth. 1:45 into the final quarter, the Monarchs slipped in a goal after a corner insert to pull within one. That goal seemed to rile up King's as they began to turn the momentum in their favor. In the fourth, the Monarchs outshot the Knights 3-0, and had four penalty corners, but Neumann hung on for the win.
Neumann (4-2) will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit Penn State Harrisburg for a 4:00 PM start.
