DOVER, Del. - The women's soccer team completed the second half of the Wesley College Soccer Invitational today. The Knights took on regional foe Marymount University in the late afternoon. Looking to rebound from their season opener loss to Wesley the Knights fought hard to tie Marymount 1-1.
Marymount scored first to take a 1-0 lead at the 11 minute mark of the first half. However, Neumann corrected their defense and began to mount offensive attacks of their own. The first half would end with Marymount up 1-0.
In the second half both teams had opportunities to score but could not capitalize on any of them. With 37 minutes to go in the game the Knights were presented with a corner kick opportunity. Freshmen Lindsay Lapetina was able to track the ball within the scramble in front of the net and finish it for the Knights' first goal of the game and season.
Senior goalie Liz Raiburn made 14 saves on 15 shots. The Knights themselves had 9 shots for the game. Neumann improves to 0-1-1 for the season. The women's soccer team will face local rival, Widener University next when they meet on September 3rd at 7 pm at Widener.
