Women's Ice Hockey Opens Season with 3-2 Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team opened its 2010-11 season with a 3-2 win at Chatham University in ECAC West action Friday evening.

Jasper Thomson had a goal and an assist for the Knights. Shannon Donnelly made 18 saves in net. Neumann out shot Chatham 45-20.

Nicole Alexopoulos put Neumann on the board 4:59 into the first period off a pass from Thomson. Chatham knotted the game at one at the 7:40 mark and the two teams went into the first intermission tied.

Kayla Dubowski put the Knights back on top 3:56 into the second period. Jessica Schroeder and Nikki Blazenko assisted on the power play goal. The Cougars scored their own power play goal at the 11:35 mark and again the teams went into the intermission tied.

Thomson scored her goal, the game-winner, 12:38 into the second period. Stephanie Bonin assisted on the goal. Neumann held Chatham for the rest of the period and took the 3-2 win.

Neumann (1-0, 1-0 ECAC West) and Chatham (0-1, 0-1 ECAC West) will face off again tomorrow beginning at 3 p.m.
