CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team picked up two huge non-conference wins on Saturday against Widener University and Penn State-Altoona at the Widener tri-match.
Both matches were nail-bitters and went five sets each. In the first match against Widener, Neumann dropped the first set 25-23 before takeing sets two and three (25-19, 25-23). After the Pride won set four 25-21, the Knights came through and won set five 15-12 to take the match.
Katelin Kuklentz was hot at the net, notching 18kills. She also added 17 digs. Natalie George pounded out 14 kills while Caitlin Cantwell added 12. Cecily Scavicchio handed out 49 assists.
Victoria Limmia led the defense with 23 digs. Scavicchio notched 12 while Danielle Kwapisz added 11.
Kwpaisz added four service aces. Kelsey D'Imperio jumped for four block solos.
Against Penn State-Altoona, the teams battles back and forth with Neumann taking sets one and three (25-21, 25-9) and the Lions taking the second and fourth (25-20, 25-22). In the end, the Knights came out on top again, 15-9.
D'Imperio had a spectacular game at the net with 21 kills. George and Kuklentz each added a dozen and Cantwell notched 10. Scavicchio dished out 38 assists.
Limmina again paced the defense with 20 kills. Elaina Shooster and Kuklentz had 14 digs and Kwapisz added 11.
Neumann (18-8) will travel to Centenary on Tuesday to start the final week of the regular season. The match is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
