ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice Hockey team skates to another victory against Chatham University 5-0 for the regular season finale Sunday afternoon.
Before the game, the Knights celebrated Senior Day, which was made sweeter qualifying for the ECAC West playoffs.
In the first period, the Cougars won 13 face-offs to Neumann's three, but the Knights wounded the Cougars with two tallies. The Knights did a fantastic job getting off to another good start to the game, scoring 3:52 into the period. Lynsey Nakamura drove the puck through the Cougars goalkeeper, at close range, to score first off an assist from Amanda Simpson. The second goal was scored by Khristine Acosta at the 5:42 mark in the period. Ashley Reimer played the puck to Nicole Alexopoulos. Alexopoulos then took the puck from the wing towards the goal, centering the puck to Acosta. Acosta remained cool in her finish extending the score 2-0 after one period.
The second period was entertaining end to end action and the Knights came away with some divine intervention from Nakamura. Nakamura's goal came at the 15:30 mark of a penalty ridden period.
The third period posed no problems for the Knights as they added two insurance power play goals. Edie Brenning tucked the puck away off assist, from Ang Gilmour and Brittany Metcalfe. The final goal was bombarded from the one and only Kayla Dubowski with 3:09 remaining in the game. Dubowski catapulted the shot from just inside the blue line. Nicole Alexopoulos and Jennie Greenlee were the contributors on Dubowski's goal.
The Knights won seven of their last 10 games. In the 10 game stretch, the Knights improved on both the defensive side of the puck (four shutouts) and spraying the puck in the back of the net, willfully (39 goals for 3.9 goals per game).
Shannon Donnelly made 19 saves in the game to preserve the shutout.
Neumann (9-12-2, 8-8-2 ECAC West) will start the conference tournament next weekend.
