LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Daniel Webster College 11-4 in the first elimination game on the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Tournament on Thursday morning.

The team pounded out 12 hits en route to the 11 runs.

Neumann put five runs on the board in the second inning to take the early 5-0 lead. Five of the first six batter reached base on singles capped by a two-run single by Matt Grossi.

The Knights would take advantage of an Eagle error and plated three unearned runs in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Neumann again took advantage of some errors and put two more runs on the board with a two-run single by Kevin Flanigan.

Russ Gilliam (11-1) went 8.0 innings. He allowed three runs, two earned, and struck out nine. Kevin Joo pitched the ninth inning.

Neumann (31-14) will face the loser of the Alvernia/Kean game tomorrow at 1:15 PM.
