Women's Hockey Falls in Season Finale

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team wrapped up the 2014-15 season with a 4-3 loss at Chatham University on Saturday afternoon.

Grace Klienbach opened the scoring 4:30 into the game off an assist from Ashley Reimer. Chatham tied the game at one midway through the period on the power play and the teams went into the first intermission tied at one.

The Cougars took a 2-1 lead with another power play goal 4:06 into the second period. Amanda Simpson knotted the game at two with a shorthanded tally at the 9:38 mark. Casey Kilduff put the Knights up 3-2 with 5:30 left in the second off an assist from Donna Williams. The lead was short lived as Chatham answered 19 seconds later. The teams went into the second intermission knotted at three.

Chatham was able to net the only goal of the third period. Neumann pulled the goalie in the attempt to try and tie the game, but to no avail. The Cougars came away with the 4-3 win.

The Cougars outshot the Knights 31-22. Justina Mayr made 27 saves in net. '

"We played well enough to win today," said head coach Gina Kearns. "Both teams fought extremely hard. I am proud of the effort we put forth. Our seniors played their hearts out and finished their Neumann careers knowing they gave it everything they had. We will miss them.

Neumann finishes the season 7-16-2 overall and 5-12-1 in ECAC West action.
