ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team will travel to Elmira College for a first round United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) playoff matchup tomorrow evening.
The Knights enter the playoffs as the eighth seed in the UCHC tournament. The team finished with a record of 3-5-1, dropping its final three games of the regular season. Neumann faces a top ranked Elmira team who finished the year with an unblemished conference record of 10-0. The Soaring Eagles have won every regular season and postseason conference championship in UCHC history.
Neumann has been led offensively this year by a quartet of forwards.
Jeannie Padden leads the team in both goals (8) and points (15), while
Katelyn Brown paces the Knights in assists (8) and is second on the team in points (14). Freshman
Georgi Rowland also has 10 points (5 g, 5 a), while senior
Claudia Trionfo has been excellent in all situations for Neumann with nine points on the year (3 g, 6 a).
On the back-end, sophomore
Mikaylee Henhawk has picked up a pair of goals and five points on the year, primarily on the power-play. The team has also received solid goaltending from junior
Alexa Lamplugh and sophomore
Michelle Winand-Bacon. The Knights will need to be at their best defensively and in goal on Thursday night versus an Elmira team that leads the conference in scoring.
To make it to the UCHC semifinals this season, Neumann will have to find a way to upset the heavily favored Soaring Eagles. The Knights struggled earlier this season against Elmira, falling in a home game on March 12
th by a score of 10-0.
Puck-drop for Thursday's contest in New York is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
