ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team head down to Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday morning for the first round of the NCAA tournament. They will be taking on the University of Mary Washington, starting at 11:00 AM.
This is the Knights' fourth trip to the NCAA tournament and the first since 2014. Their best appearance was in 2011 when they advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen" before being eliminated.
Neumann earned their bid by defeating Cabrini University in the Atlantic East Conference Championship game by a final score of 1-0. The lone goal was scored by
Eddie Proud on a penalty kick in the 21st minute. From there, the defense held strong anchored by
Seth Walker's three saves.
The Knights are led by
Jake Kuzmick's seven goals and three assists for 17 points.
Chimdi Ekwem and
Patrick Oliveira have picked up four goals each. Walker has a goals against average of 96% to go with four shutouts and one combined shutout.
The Eagles sport an overall record of 16-1-2 and are the Coast to Coast Conference champions after defeating Wisconsin-Platteville in the final last Sunday, 3-2. They are ranked number one in NCAA Region VI and are ranked number two nationally, according to the United Soccer Coaches National Poll.
Tickets for the semifinals are available at the Battlefield Athletic Complex Ticket Booth one hour prior to the match. $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, military, and students. Children two and under are free.
The winner will advance to the second round to battle with the winner of the other first round match between John Carroll and St. Mary's of Maryland on Sunday.
