Club Ice Hockey helps local youth in need

12/12/2023 3:43:00 PM

On Sunday, December 10th, The Neumann University Club Ice Hockey Team traveled to Colmar, Pa, but this time they weren't traveling to compete in a game, They instead were traveling to help the youth of the Philadelphia Blind Hockey organization (PBH)  with their weekly practice!

Philadelphia Blind Hockey is a subsection of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA). PBH works to ensure that every individual who is blind or partially sighted has the opportunity to participate in the para-sport of Blind Hockey. It's vision vision is to provide the opportunity to play hockey in a team setting.

In 2019, select students of the Overbrook School for the Blind were able to partner with the Philadelphia Flyers to have the opportunity to try hockey. Seeing there was a need as one of the fastest growing segments of Disabled Hockey, the city of brotherly love was the next best choice for a team. In 2022, Philadelphia announced their first ever blind hockey team program to the area. Philadelphia Blind hockey kicked off their inaugural season with partnering with the Philadelphia Flyers to host their first ever Try Blind Hockey event on March 12th.

Philadelphia Blind Hockey will host weekly ice sessions throughout the season with a focus on teaching basic skating and hockey skills. The program will strive to promote and emphasize the development of sportsmanship, team spirit, increased confidence, pride, and team unity.

Well done Knights!
