Men’s Volleyball Grabs Three United East Awards

LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced their Men's Volleyball postseason awards on Wednesday morning and three Knights were among the honorees. Christian DeMarco was named the Defensive Player of the Year, and to the All-Conference First team. Trey Edmonds was also named to the All-Conference First Team while Veryl Burns was picked for the Second Team.
 
DeMarco led the United East Conference and all of Division III in digs per set with 3.68. He finished the season with a total of 265 digs, putting him third in the conference, and the most in program history. He was only 17 behind the conference leader, despite playing in 24 less sets.
 
Edmonds was a two-time United East Conference Player of the Week. He had a conference best 330 kills, which was 24 more than anyone else, and the most in a single season in Neumann program history.  He also had 33 service aces, which is second in a single season. He added 186 digs, third in a single season, and had a total of 21 blocks, with nine block solos and 12 block assists. His .247 hitting percentage was seventh in the conference.
 
Burns finished the season with the fifth best hitting percentage in the conference with a .263. He led the United East with 30 block solos and was sixth in total blocks with 57. With that mark, he's now first, second, and third in total blocks in a single season at Neumann. His 157 kills on the year places him fifth on the Knights' single season list.
 
The Knights earned their very first conference playoff berth on the strength of a 5-3 United East record, going 14-12 overall. They also very their first conference playoff match, in the first round of the United East tournament, defeating Saint Elizabeth College in straight sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21, before falling in the semifinals.
